This newsletter's purpose is to keep you updated on
news about the OU/OUBS and its various products, the alumni association, offers and affinity
deals, alumni events and just about anything else that you request.
Offers have been selected
as appropriate for our readership. The companies and people offering them
are not necessarily connected to or endorsed by the OUBS.
|
|
We would also like
to receive news from you (with web links) that I can circulate to
the rest of the association. You will see that many of the items
link you back to the alumni web site at www.open.ac.uk/oubs-alumni
where you will also find the news site, events listings as well as
the on-line membership directory. If you are not there it is
probably because you have not opted in and we need your permission
and signature for data protections reasons. Please email oubs-alumni@open.ac.uk
for the necessary paperwork.

Launch of new OUBS journal - we need your advice!
|
|
The European Business Review
The Open University Business School is
proposing to launch from January 2005, a new journal entitled The
European Business Review, modelled on the Harvard Business Review. Its
style will be accessible to non-academic readers, and as such it will
aim to present new ideas, models, theories and business practices in
an entertaining readable way without losing sight of their essential
rigorous nature. It will be sold on the news stand at £12.50 per copy
(four a year) but will be available to OUBS Alumni at a special
discounted rate of £8.50 a copy. A 'taster' copy will be available to
all alumni at cost in October.
We would appreciate a response to this
proposal to gauge the likely level of interest in such a journal
amongst Alumni, and would ask you to address yourself particularly to
two questions
1. Have we got the targeted content
about right and if not how could it be improved in concept?
2. Is the pricing about right for a
quarterly journal of this nature, assuming we keep the contents
stimulating.
Your replies please to oubs-alumni@open.ac.uk

Use of Business Library database?
|
|
Again we would like to hear from you, this
time regarding continuing use of OU Library facilities once you cease
to be a student.
Would you be interested in obtaining
access to a range of academic journals through the OU library, upon
payment of an annual membership fee? For example the database BSP
offers the full text of over 2000 scholarly and business
journals covering management, economics, finance, accounting and
international business. Full text back to 1990 in many cases with
selected titles back to 1965 and even earlier. How much would you be
prepared to pay per annum for such a facility?
Your responses please to oubs-alumni@open.ac.uk

interest as a challenging route to professional development. If you

Another
opportunity to hear Tom Peters - this time in London
|
|
Tom Peters is the most influential
business thinker of our age. Irrepressible and charismatic, he
virtually invented the role of the modern guru single handed. Peters
is passionate, provocative, disruptive, even destructive, but always
liberating. His relentless demands for us to move on from the status
quo led the Evening Standard to say recently, “[Peters] is to
business what [Dr] Robert Atkins is to the obese.” The Financial
Times describes him as “a scourge of the rationalist tradition…”
The OUBS Alumni Association is
supporting this event and has negotiated a special rate for MBA alumni
with the organiser, Benchmark Management, go to www.benchmarkpeters.com/oubs
to make a booking.
