| This newsletter's purpose
is to keep you updated on news about the OU/OUBS and its
various products, the alumni association, offers and
affinity deals, alumni events and just about anything
else that you request. Offers have been selected as
appropriate for our readership. The companies and people
offering them are not necessarily connected to or
endorsed by the OUBS.
We would also like to receive news
from you (with web links) that I can circulate to the

items link you back to the alumni web site at www.open.ac.uk/oubs-alumni
where you will also find the news site, events listings
as well as the on-line membership directory. If you are
not there it is probably because you have not opted in

protections reasons.

Motivation and Communication - The
Essential Connection -
2 November half day workshop, OU Campus,

Is motivation just a matter of
positive thinking? Why are some people more self-motivated than
others?
How can we all become better at motivating ourselves and the people
around us? How can a manager begin to create a self-motivating
environment?
This workshop is designed for people who want to understand more
about what happens beneath the surface, and want to learn more about
how to boost motivation in ways that leave themselves and colleagues
feeling more empowered and satisfied with their decisions and
actions. This will be a fun, memorable, interactive event with
opportunities to explore new skills safely and easily.
To make a booking ring the alumni
office on 01908 659262 www.open.ac.uk/oubs-alumni

Successful face to face networking -
9 November half day workshop, OU Regional Office, Camden, London NW1
How confident are you about walking in to a room full of people
you've never met before?
What impression do you create when you meet someone for the first
time?
How good are you at creating rapport when you meet people at
networking events?
This half day workshop focuses only on those aspects of networking
that take place face to face: ’networking events’, parties,
presentation and meetings. It is designed for people who want to
improve their performance and gain confidence in order to develop
new contacts, seek information, and explore business opportunities -
in short, people who want to broaden the range and scope of their network.

Never mind the Buzzcocks - download
lectures instead – Guardian
Distance learning is nothing new,
of course - the Open University, after all, pioneered it 40 years
ago, and last year launched its Open Learning website, which also
allows casual visitors to drop in and out as they please. OU
spokeswoman Laura Dewis cites Nigel Warburton's philosophy
podcasts as being particularly popular with casual users.
