Welcome back from the summer break!
As promised in July's newsletter, Al Shah, the new Chair of the Alumni Advisory Board, has written a welcome outlining the role and plans of the Board which you can read here.
Thanks to all those who have been in touch over the summer with ideas and thoughts on developing the community. To better understand what you want from the network here is a link to a brief questionnaire. You can complete this anonymously, but please do add your details if you would like a response! Your direct feedback will inform our plans as we strive to deploy our resources in the areas that are most required.

News

* Open University Business School has appointed prominent economist and presenter Evan Davis as a Visiting Professor to support its research, scholarship and enterprise strategy. Within this role Evan will give a public lecture on Reflections on the British Economy on 1 November and will act as a mentor to newer academics and postgraduate students.

* The Open University Business School has launched a network to support businesses local to HQ in Milton Keynes, providing a series of breakfast briefings. If you would like to get involved, please contact the alumni office for further information.

* What we're discussing on LinkedIn: The OU and the DBA, Career Support, Rock'n'Roll, the B822 and more… join the debate!

* We are seeking a new Chair for our International Advisory Board, to replace Sir Emyr Jones Parry who is stepping down from the role. We'd welcome applications from suitably qualified alumni.  The Open University Business School's International Advisory Board provides knowledgeable strategic insight to the Dean, the School Executive Team and the wider University. * Celebrate Oktoberfest with colleagues from our Munich group

* Evan Davis' inaugural lecture, Reflections on the British Economy, 1 November, Milton Keynes (free)

Research

* Dr Pauline Gleadle of the Open University Business School and colleagues from the University of Hertfordshire have recently published a research report which considers the UK SME bio-pharma sector and the extent to which innovation, reinvention and capital are at risk.

* The Open University is a partner in a European-wide open learning initiative, OpenScout. Aimed at managers and trainers, OpenScout provides tools and online material for re-use, connecting a large pool of different open educational resources and providing a Tool Library that enable users to modify, adapt and localise materials to their need and context. You are invited to register and explore.
